DATES: 11 - 20 & 18 - 27 NOVEMBER 2022

Something special

In the north of Uganda, on the border of one of the biggest game reserves.

Come and serve, be enchanted.

What you need to know - in brief

Applications are now closed.

In association with Ugandan Youth Organisation, and the Ugandan Ministry of Health, you are invited to serve for the very first time in 2022

THE SHORT VERSION OF THE DETAILS:

  1. As this is the first time for this mission, we will be selecting two small teams of 6 DCs. This means many will be disappointed in not getting a place, however we intent to make this a more frequent mission, so many more opportunities will occur.
  2. We have assumed that you would want to see some of Uganda, so we have added two events for your arrival and departure weekends (details below)
  3. You will need to organise your own flights to arrive either on the 11th or 18th of November in Entebbe. Departure either 20th or 27th.
  4. You will need to bring an adjusting table with you. We will be adjusting full spine manually (e.g. Diversified, Gonstead, Syntropy /not activator, tonal techniques). This is a non-negotiable point.
  5. On arrival you will likely be required to present your vaccination record for Yellow Fever. Currently this is the only compulsory vaccination. It is up to you to obtain the necessary document.
  6. We have done our best to budget for the group, and will present the details below. No payment is required to apply, but will be required to confirm an invitation to participate.

There has been decades of social streif / war in Uganda, so not surprisingly their access to health care is often non-existent. So we will help people with tropical diseases, HIV, and who knows what else that never presents in our western practices. It will be hot, we plan on being busy, it will be challenging, and it will be rewarding.

Don't be the one who wished they had been there, JOIN US!

Uganda

What you need to know - in detail

THE SCHEDULE:

Each team is to arrive on the Friday in Entebbe, the following for each has been planned.

Friday: arrival and overnight in Entebbe

Saturday: drive in minibus to Ziwa Rhino Santuary. Rhino tracking  tour  planned  for  the  afternoon.. Overnight in / close to the park

Sunday: depart Murchison and drive to Gulu

Monday > Friday: Overnight in same hotel in Gulu (individual rooms with breakfast / dinner included). Each day drive to a local community to serve. We are thinking about 6 hours per day.

Friday: depart Gulu and drive to Murchison Falls National Park, ready for a sunrise safari tour on Saturday morning. We  decided  that  a  level  of  comfort  at  the  end  of  the  week  was  appropriate,  rather  than  backpackers  type  accomodation.  We're looking a 2 per room, cost includes meals, but not drinks by the pool! For those who wish, it may be possible for you to organise an additional activity in the reserve on the Saturday afternoon, however you will need to take care of organising this yourself.

Sunday: depart Murchison for Entebbe for your departure flights.

If you wish to take advantage of the time in Uganda, and either arrive early, or stay later, that is entirely up to you, however it would need to fit in with the schedule above. We do not have the resources to provide addtional stopovers / assistance. Similarly although you may want to share with your partner / family, we do not recommend for this mission, as we have no capacity to assist / accomodate.

SERVING WITH LOVE

Ugandan rules for chiropractic means that we will not individually be recognised, rather we will be covered under the practising license of Dr. Prisca Rompen. This also gives us the opporuntiy to help define what chiropracTIC in Uganda is. So as mentioned above, bring your own portable adjusting table, and be ready to adjust manually full-spine. If you are unable / unwilling to practice this way, then this mission may not be the one for you. We will not be offering adjunct therapies, activator or tonal techniques, we want to see hands on spines. This is a non-negotiable point and we ask you to respect this decision.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

There are only a few airlines that service Entebbe, however the economy fares are very reasonable. We recommend you take a look at Brussels, KLM or Turkish airlines.

This is a finacially self -sufficent mission. While we have the wonderful Simon Wilobo on the ground, but his organisation cannot offer financial support. So here's a brief breakdown of the costs:

- hotel rooms in Entebbe, Ziwa, Gulu and Murchison

- entry fees to the two parks

- vehicle / driver / fuel costs

- 5 t-shirts per person

- additional admin costs including lunches / water

Total fee per person is US$1050.

Once we have selected the groups and sent invitations, we will require payment in full using Paypal to confirm your place (due 14 August).

You will need to budget for your airfares on top of this, and we recommend as soon as practical to make flight reservations. Please pay close attention to the departure times, since a Sunday departure at 00:20 is too early, you would need to take the Monday at 00:20.

Local currency is the Ugandan Shilling, however at major hotels / locations US$ may be accepted.

We are making an effort to make this first mission an experience to remember, and this means the costs are a little higher. If it runs well and we return regularly, we may not use the same itinerary. You may also want to contact Conor Ward who is also organising a mission to Uganda for October (another location). Our discussions so far suggest they may also visit Ziwa, and with costs approximately the same

HEALTH & WELLBEING

If you have any concerns about your health or potential health risk given that we are heading into tropical / mosquito country (think Malaria), with exposure potential to various tropical / contangious diseases, then please consider this before applying. Food allergies could be challenging too, as could dietary choices eg vegan, keto.

As with most countries the Covid rules are a moving goal post, but there is no vaccine / test requirements currently.

You will have to be ready to present documentation showing Yellow Fever vaccination. You can expect to  be stopped and asked on arrival, so you need to find a solution for this.  Failuire to produce may result in you being denied access to the country.

WE'LL KEEP YOU UP TO DATE

Once the teams are all confirmed we want to set up a few zooms so that we cover all the background info in more detail, and also get to know each other better. As time approaches we'll also provide some advice on what to bring and what to be prepared for. Things like insect protection, clothing, SIM card purchasing.

WHAT TO DO NOW

If you‘ve made it through to here, awesome! We hope to see you in Uganda. What we need you to do is complete this application form, no later than 17 July.

Applications are now closed.

Although many of you spoke to Craig or Prisca already about attending, given that we can only now provide full details we find it only fair that everyone gets the same opportunity to participate. Once we have recieved the applications, we'll put together 2 teams of 6 and send inviations out by 31 July. At that point we will need your details and payment received by 14 August to confirm your place.

What if you are confirmed but for some reason have to cancel? Assuming that no fixed costs have been paid we will refund your fee. As we have several costs that do have to be paid in advance, the refund maybe be pro-rata depending on the date of withdrawl. We will confirm this schedule asap.
